Well after feeling pretty good for a couple of weeks I crashed and burned this last week. Missed my last period and then this week I have had a lot of headaches, anxiety, more night sweats and taken up residence in the loo with a bladder that just wont quit. Saw the GP today and typical he insisted I have a urine test because I must have a bladder infection. I told him this has been going on for afew months but he said a low lying bladder infection would also account for the headaches. I did the test to humour him anyway but insisted he prescribe oestrogen so have got 50mg patches which I will collect tomorrow. So hope things start to improve soon.

Wishing you luck but you might also benefit from using vaginal estrogen cream which helps keep the tissues healthy and minimises the risk of bladder infection. Jacks

Hi the cream is called ovestin and it comes with a little applicator, but unfortunately it needs a prescription. You can also get a little tablet called vagifem. These are both very good products and excellent at dealing with vaginal atrophy. Some women find they need both. The good thing about the vaginal preparations are they are minute doses so no risks are associated with them.
I needed both a patch and a vaginal preparation to feel really comfortable. Some do and some don't depends on how bad you are with it all.
Good luck with the patch I find them very effective, would be great to hear how you get on.

Just curious about how long before there should be some improvement??

It really depends on the individual. Things like hot flushes tend to be the first thing women start to notice an improvement in. That can be as quick as just a few days to a week for some women. Other ladies might take a bit longer to see some improvement, especially in things like mood swings, anxiety, insomnia etc. However, you should definitely be starting to feel at least a small general improvement in the first month. It can sometimes take a few months before you start to get the full benefits of the patches, so just hang in there for a while.

Just a bit of an update, I have now been on the oestrogen patches for about 3 1/2 weeks and there has been a big improvement. Headaches have gone, anxiety levels much lower and no more night sweats. Had the odd hot flush usually in the mornings and all bladder issues ok as well. Yay... hope this continues as previous treatments last a little while then seems to drop off.
Quick question, have noticed that everyone here seems to only take progesterone for so many days a month where as I take 100mg everyday without a break. Is that normal??? havent had a period for about 8 or 9 weeks.

Lilangel - I use 100mg utrogestan capsules on alternate nights. I don't get a bleed with this regime.

I'm not on utrogestan but the standard prescribing regime is 100 mg 25 days out of 28 for a continuous no-bleed arrangement. 200 mg 12 days out of 25 for a Sequi, bleed arrangement. But some women have the confidence that comes from experience to tweak things to suit themselves. ie use every other night, use vaginally, use every other month etc If you take the lower dose and take it continuously it should keep your lining nice and thin so you won't get a bleed, which is what sounds like is happening. xxxx

Really glad to get your update. It's always great to hear when someone is improving.
Re the progesterone - I'm on Utrogestan, although at the moment I'm not using it, but will use 200mg daily for 10 days from the beginning of November and will do that same thing every 2 months. That gives a bleed every two months.
