Hi Warthog A blood test might be an idea. There is an excellent book I use as reference for deficiences. It is Thierry Hertoghe Hormone Solution ( available from Amazon) Also his website is filled with useful information. Hope links are permitted - if not please don't take away my estrogel lol www.hertoghe.eu/home/ Jacks

I had a saliva test done when I was going to a naturopath earlier this year (waste of time - but that's a whole different thread...). Anyway she said my testosterone level was very good, so I've never worried about it. What kind of symptoms do you get if you are in need of testosterone?

Thanks for all that info Candy. It's certainly very interesting.
Personally, I'd be happy to have Hugh Jackman's or Hugh Grant's phone number (I must have a thing for men call "Hugh"). I know Mr Jackman is rumoured to be gay, but I'm happy to help him change teams if he is...lol...

Although I don't have any experience of using testosterone, like bellaciao I am constantly toying with the idea of trying it. Can I just say though, how refreshing it is, to have such an interesting subject being discussed openly once again. What I can add, is that my other half has been prescribed testosterone gel and it has certainly made a difference to him energy and fatigue wise. It has possibly had an effect libido wise too (which doesn't really help me much of course, so I may well have to bite the bullet and give it a try!)

I'm really not sure what team Hugh J is on. My gaydar has never gone off with him, but then I'm not the world's most obvservant person..lol... I think the general opinion in Oz is that he's straight. I think most of the gay rumours started in America, but then they think every actor is gay over there. Anway, who really cares what people do in their private life. As long as he's a good dad and treats his wife well, that's all that matters.

I was reading or watching something a while ago, and it was all about whether men go through a menopause type thing, and it was said to be very likely. When men reach a certain age they tend to slow down and lose energy, and most just put it down to age, but it was shown to be a loss of testosterone, just like our menopause is a loss of hormones. So when men start making jokes about our menopause I suggest we turn the tables on them..lol..

My husband loves it when I treat him by applying my compounded testosterone to him at bed time. If you want to treat your man to a great climax just try it. Jacks

When I saw Prof Studd he prescribed 1/4 tube of testim every other day. I did help with desire, and definitely with response. Unfortunately I couldn't afford to continue seeing him so I'm now seeing an NHS gyne who is very understanding. She has written to my GP recommending Intrinsa, and if GP won't prescribe it gyne will do T implant. Testim wasn't mentioned. GP e-mailed me saying she would happily prescribe Intrinsa but needs more evidence of it's effectiveness before she can do so. She's writing to gyne. I'm still waiting to hear from them. Since I've been off Testim = no desire and no response

THey like to restrict use on financial grounds. Jacks

Hi Candy,
Yes I was disappointed when Testim wasn't mentioned but I'd had such a long drawn out discussion about prog intolerance that I didn't feel up to pushing it re the Testim. I will mention it next time I see her though.
Hi Jacks,
Thanks, I'll have a look at the PCT.

I thought that too Candy, so came away quite confused about it.
But why should it be only for women who have had hysters with ovaries removed ? It's the same stuff as Testogel, Testim and T implant or am I wrong on that?
I expect it's got something to do with money and an excuse not to prescribe.
I've an appointment with GP in a couple of weeks so will find out what her decision is re prescribing.

When I enquired at our surgery I was told that Prof Studd was 'controversial' and she would make enquiries. She then wrote to me advising that it is their policy to only prescribe to women who have had ovaries removed and the alternative would be to refer me to a specialist as it is unlicensed.

It's not looking very positive for me next week when I see my GP re the Intrinsa. She's really nice and will prescribe it if she can but from what I've read it looks unlikely.
If she can't prescribe it gyne did say she would do T implant but I have reservations about it as I'll have no control.
I had a look on the link Robyn posted for obtaining Utrogestan and saw that the company also has Testim so if all else fails I might try getting it from there.

Just had a look at the prices Candy, agree, not too expensive at all. A box of 30 would last a good eight months. I'm really eager to start T again as apart from helping with libido it cleared up my dry skin too.

Hi ladies,
I saw my lovely GP today and she's prescribed me Intrinsa. She said she is allowed to prescribe it to women who haven't had a hysterectomy under specialist advice.
She said I can use it until age 60 but will review it in 2/3 years time, but to get in touch if I have any problems with it.
She said it can sometimes effect blood pressure so she would need to keep an eye on that, BP fine at the moment. She also asked me to have a cholesterol test done but I'm not sure if that's linked to the Intrinsa use.
Chemist has had to order the Intrinsa so will pick it up tomorrow.

Yes, it's great news as I felt quite sure GP would refuse me them. Picked up the patches today - they are quite large, and have to be placed on the lower tummy area only, it's a bit of an awkward place for me as I've been wearing those low cut jeans of late, so hope any rubbing doesn't cause them to fall off. I'll ask the gyne as to why I can't have Testim next time I see her Candy, as you say, I did get on well with it and it's so easy to use. I'll keep you informed ladies.

Jenny, is there a time of day when it is better to use testosterone do you know? I have just started using this and I am wondering if night time is not ideal. Probably coincidence, especially with the warmer nights we have been having lately but I have not slept very well at all since starting it I have been very restless. I guess four days is too early to tell if it is having any effect but so far I am even more tired due to lack of sleep!

Thanks Wart - that would have explained the three nights of wide eyed-ness for me then! I was so intent on using the T gel this morning that I completely forgot my Estrogen tablet - duh! Obviously less able to multi-task the further into meno I go.

Quick question for those seasoned testosterone users; I have just started using this (about ten days ago) and experienced the most horrible down days. To be more precise, since changing from conti HRT to using Elleste solo and Utro, the past few days I have had the a really horrendous black mood. We are talking about seven or eight months here, so it is quite noticeable. Not so bad today but for the past couple of days I know I have been a very unpleasant person to live with. Could it be that my body needs to adjust to testosterone before I feel any benefits? Admittedly I did it wrong for the first few days, using it at night, but surely that wouldn't make that much difference (apart from the fact I didn't sleep well). My plan was to try it for a month to see how I felt - does that seem a fair amount of trial?

Wart - yes, the estrogen level is exactly the same as it was on conti - have never used more than 1mg -especially with the sore boob issue, thought an increase might make that particular issue worse, and I am still persisting with the starflower/evening primrose capsules for that.
Candy - More sort of flat, depressed mood - a bit better today actually as I just met an old friend for lunch. It might be co-incidence as there are lots of things to bring me down at the mo - no sale on the house so far, daughter not been well with her pregnancy, and a thorn in my side workwise, won't bore you with all the details. I have made one sachet last ten days so don't think I have been too heavy handed with it. With regard to the Utro; since changing to this regime - for which I will always be grateful to you for providing the info - I have never felt so good. More energy for the gym, sleeping much better, libido still rubbish and sometimes the brain, well what can I say, definitely not a candidate for Mastermind as I would probably forget what I had gone there for! Read the article in the Mail today re: Pink fog so was heartened to read that T might help with that. Perhaps I should try and reduce it a little for a while then.

Talking of testosterone and anger reminded me of an amusing incident. I had just started testosterone and that evening was helping husband to run a chess tourney. Some of the players including a Russian Grandmaster kept making a noise. The first time I asked them to quieten down - I was ignored. 5 Minutes later I got to my feet and roared " shut the fuck up" the room went silent!!!! and stayed that way lol Jacks
