Over the last 7 months that I’ve been going through meno (prog intolerance) hell, I’ve let a lot of other things slip – like my weight. Most of the time I’ve felt so bad that I just haven’t bothered doing much regular exercise (I like to do about 20-25 minutes of cardio and about 20-25 minutes of weights). I couldn’t always be bothered eating properly either, although I’ve always tried to be a healthy eater, avoiding all types of processed food and sugar and eating lot of veggies. So I know what I have to do to lose weight, it’s just doing it that’s the problem.
Like a lot of meno ladies, I started to gain weight around 40 and I have always found it very hard to lose it. A few years ago I made a concerted effort to lose about 8kg and it took me nearly 12 months to do it. If I’m lucky I’ll lose about 1kg per month. I can live with that, as long as it’s consistent.
Anyway, the other day I held my breath and hopped on the scales, and I’ve gained about 6kg. Bugger!! Ideally I would love to lose around 10kg, but I have to lose at least 5kg to feel comfortable again. So, I’ve started exercising regularly again, although at this time of year in Oz that’s hard because it’s so cold in the morning, and staying curled up in bed with my two cats is much more attractive.
Anyway, now that I’m on regular oestradiol and progesterone I’m hoping that one or the either will help me lose the weight a bit more easily. I’m not sure if they will because there seems to be a lot of conflicting information about whether they help or hurt weight issues.

Robyn, I found that when I am settled on a regime it's easier to exercise. My weight doesn't change a great deal but I do like to feel a bit fitter and more toned. Before I was on utrogestan I felt very sluggish, my sleeping patterns were awful and I didn't have much inclination to exercise. (Touch Wood) I have managed to keep up a pretty good routine of late and I think it's because the progesterone I was on previously didn't suit so well. Maybe if you can get a more settled routine with HRT you will feel a bit more motivated. I haven't particularly found much of a weight change though, and in fact, these days I probably weigh a little bit less than I did about 15 years ago, as I found an old health questionnaire from a job I was working at then and the occupational health nurse had weighed me at that time. I wasn't really into exercise either as I am now. (Hence all the creaking and aching bones and joints).

Wow do you mean that amount of exercise every day? Blimey I never manage that! Bellaciao x Oh good lord no!! I wish I could do that every day. I try to aim for 3 times a week. If I can do 4 times (which is more likely to happen in summer) I feel really chuffed with myself. If I do 2 times I feel slightly guilty, but then I think "well it's better than none"...lol.. This last week I've only done it twice. I had every intentions of doing some exercise this morning (Saturday), but then talked myself out of it fairly quickly. Hopefully I will start afresh next week and at least try for 3 times. Haven't weighed myself since last week, and I'm going to try to resist the tempation for a while.

I haven't weighed myself since that last time, so I have no idea if I've lost any weight. I doubt it, because I haven't been consistant enough with exercise and I've still been a bit naughty with food. To top it off, a dear friend of mine left me some home made chocolates on my door step this morning, because she said I needed some "comfort" food...lol... Love her to pieces, but not good for the weight loss issue.
However, on the upside, I have exercised 3 times so far this week. I'll probably have a sleep in tomorrow morning, but I might even get a fourth one in on Friday. Fingers crossed.

In an ideal world I would love to lose ten pounds so that my clothes fit better but it is so hard to deprive myself of the treats that cheer me up. Doc says I am within my BMI but am aware that a gain of a couple more pounds will send me into the overweight zone. But am not sure what is best thing to do. I have read that some weight gain is a good thing cos it offers us protection at our age and is natural and to be expected and then you read all the worrying stuff about how bad abdominal fat is so what is a post menopausal women to do eh! Accept the extra flab or fight it?

Weight has been a constant battle all my life! When I was on HRT I actually lost weight, as I felt so much better and had more energy. Since coming off the weight went on really quickly, and I'm now trying quite hard to get it down. I find "proper" diets impossible - the only way I can lose weight is to eat normally, but less of it. Exercise is my bugbear. Doing proper exercises bores me to tears. If I can work outside in the garden then that helps a lot, but it is so hot at the moment, that time spent doing that is limited. I know I have to get moving more, as it helps me to feel better generally, as well as getting the weight down, but finding the right thing to do is tough.
Gxx

I've decided to take the "lazy" route for a while. I'm getting those weight loss meals home delivered. I'm using Lite 'n Easy, but I'm not sure if that company is in other countries. I've used them once before. Not for weight loss, but about 5 years ago I had to have an operation on my macular (eye op) and during the recuperation you really aren't allowed to do anything for a couple of weeks. So I had the meals delivered so I didn't have to do any food preparation. The food was pretty good, so I thought I would give it a try for a couple of months to see if this will be an "easy" way to lose some weight (yes I know - there are no easy ways to lose weight...lol..). Today is my first day and for this week I've had three meals a day delivered, but from next week I'm only getting lunches and dinners because breakfast is easy to organise, and I save about $12 which buys a lot of eggs, cereal and bread. The exercise part has never been my problem because I usually do about 40-50 minutes of weights and cardio 3-4 times a week. So if I can stick to not putting anything in my mouth that I shouldn't I should hopefully lose some weight.
