Menopause is notorious for lowering sexual libido. This can be triggered by several factors. Vaginal dryness causes pain and obviously makes sex a chore. It is easily treated with vaginal estrogen. I use Ovestin. I also use systemic hormones. It is estimated that 25% of women using HRT need to supplement with vaginal estrogen. estrogen applied vaginally also improves blood flow to the vulva and aids sexual response. However it is not simply a question of vaginal lubrication. If testosterone is too low then it needs to be replaced Intrinsa patches are available and testosterone implants but difficult to get prescribed on the NHS. There are also testosterone gels for men - testim and Androgel but these will need to be carefully measured for female use. If testosterone is fine but there is still a poor response estradiol might need raising. I rarely use testosterone as I run high levels naturally but I do use plenty of estradiol. Another important factor is Thyroid function - this impacts on libido as there are thyroid receptors in the reproductive system. Don't be fobbed off with " its all in your head" if you have had a healthy sex drive which has vanished the reason is frequently hormone inbalance. It is important to note that medications can affect reponse - anti depressants, anti histamines, opiate pain killers and sedatives are notorious for this. Jacks
