We have estradiol receptors throughout the female body - hence the effect on the appearance. Frequently hair is lost from the pubic area, the armpits and the legs. Eyebrows can get sparse and eyelashes become thinner. Hair loss from the head is also known to occur.Facial hair can appear and one sign of low estrogen are vertical lines above the mouth and a pallid complexion. The lips lose colour and get thinner and flatter losing the bow. The waist thickens and the normal pear shape is lost as extra fat is deposited on the belly. HRT can reverse or prevent many of these changes. Collagen is depleted by falling estradiol and the skin gets thinner and drier. Facial sagging accelerates and blotchiness is common. The buttocks flatten and the breasts droop with the nipples losing sensitivity and pigmentation. The backs of the hands suffer because the skin is already thin and veins become prominent. The vaginal lips become thin and the clitoris shrinks. The vulva becomes pale and loses sensitivity.

Frequently hair is lost from the pubic area, the armpits and the legs. No that hasn't started yet, but that one I wouldn't mind. No more shaving...lol...Eyebrows can get sparse and eyelashes become thinner. I've always had fairly sparse and fair eyebrows which I have to tint regularly (thinking of having them tattooed). Eyelashes still seem to be okay.Hair loss from the head is also known to occur. I used to notice a lot of hair coming out when I washed it, but I think that has reduced a bit. Mind you, my actual hair never seems to get any thinner, so maybe what I lose is quite normal.Facial hair can appear Not yet - fingers crossed.and one sign of low estrogen are vertical lines above the mouth and a pallid complexion. Apart from "laugh lines" around my eyes and slight "bagginess" underneath I don't have too many other lines on my face yet - touch wood. Most people do seem genuinely surprised when I tell them I'm 53. They usually say I look more early 40s The lips lose colour and get thinner and flatter losing the bow. lips are still quite full with a good colourThe waist thickens and the normal pear shape is lost as extra fat is deposited on the belly. HRT can reverse or prevent many of these changes. Definitely have that. Weight has been an ongoing issue for me for the last 10 years. I really need to lose at least 5-10 kg.The buttocks flatten and the breasts droop with the nipples losing sensitivity and pigmentation. Yep definitely have that although my nipples have never been that "sensitive" and they have always been quite pale in colour, but I have quite fair skin anyway. The backs of the hands suffer because the skin is already thin and veins become prominent. Yes - in fact I was looking at my hands yesterday and I thought to myself that I'm starting to get "old lady's" hands. The vaginal lips become thin and the clitoris shrinks. The vulva becomes pale and loses sensitivity. not sure about that. I haven't inspected the undercarriage for a while, but I don't have any "issues" in that area, so I'll leave it alone for the time being...lol..

I'm of the school of though which believes we need higher hormone levels to replicate our pre peri selfs. When you think about it the physical changes caused by low hormones are an alarm going off from the body that we may not be replacing adequate amounts to protect our heart health.Apple less healthy then pear shape. I'm very vain however and like my 26 inch waist and thick eyelashes.I also concede that I'm controversial. Jacks

Bellacacio I'm lucky that progesterone agrees with me and I'm happy to use it continually. What about women using mirena coil - they get progesterone throught the month. I couldn't bear the beginning of that roll of fat - however it took thyroxine as well as estradiol to make a real impact on it. A few doctors do actually agree that decent levels are needed. When I started getting symptoms I actually had a decent level of progesterone - my specialist told me my body wouldn't tolerate even a small drop in estradiol. Jacks

Lainey, I feel so bad that you have to deal with all this so early. It's just not fair. It's bad enough when you're in your 50s. I just hope for your sake that you'll get all the issues sorted out quickly and you can enjoy your middle years and not have to bother about menopause symptoms at all.
