I'm a tough cookie but when I awake in the night with one of those attacks I am reduced to being a screaming nervous wreck and my husband bathes me with cool water and I take an extra beta blocker. My husband says that when I'm feeling better he can notice the drop in my body temperature.

It really annoys me that the medical profession are so blase about thyroid disease. I have suffered it over over thirty years and all I got was stupid doctors trying to give me a pychiatric condition to explain my weight loss (weighed 6 1/2 stone and was labelled anorexic) suffered irritability and mood swings (naturally my childhood was to blame) I really got pigeonholed. My current GP did the NHS tests which kept coming up normal. It wasn't until I had anti bodies tested privately that I was able to nail the cause. I have read of women getting committed and it turned out thyroid disease was affecting their personalities. Then you get silly books like Christinne Northrup's one where she claims Hashimoto is caused by self hatred. It is hard to know if more crap is written about menopause or thyroid disease but it appears that if a condition normally affects women then it is fair game for every idiot in town to write complete gibberish about the subject and the cure usually involves a nasty detox and highly restrictive diet. One stupid doctor I saw recommended a diet I called the bird seed diet because it seemed to consist of seeds which birds eat lol

Rusalka, Jacks has researched thyroid problems in a great deal of depth and as she said she had had scans and bloods to try to find out what's going on. I think a lot of your symptoms are caused by your thyroid and as jacks said it can swing from hypo to hyper. I feel this because you are using extra gel and applying it correctly but seem to have really bad symptoms but these symptoms do resemble thyroid problems. I think if you can get that under control you will feel a lot better. The above are all recognized thyroid problems and you are experiencing quite a few of them. Lainey xx Lainey, I really don't know what to think. A facebook friend, who is a pharmacist and also have thyroid and pituitary problems just wrote to me that estrogen can decrease thyroid levels! So I could have now even lower thyroid. But I thought that nervousness and anxiety are mostly symptoms for hyper thyroid, not low! I also have a burning in my breast, I mean in both boobs, which can't be thyroid related, or I'm wrong? Those sunburn-like sensations in the back and shoulders few other ladies with low estrogen described too and in my case it was always much better after applying the estrogel. It's only today that it don't help! I will see an endocrinologist in one week, so till then I have to survive somehow... Only 2 weeks ago my husband said to me that he has a feeling I feel so much better now and how happy he is for me! and now such a rebound again!

Rusalka Estrogen certainly hasn't lowered my thyroid hormones. I'm currently on beta blockers to suppress the symptoms of hyper thyroidism. Thyroid and the sex hormones do inter react but personally it sounds as though your thyroid is at present hyper. Jacks

I will try to reduce my dose, although it's already very low, 25 mg. I hope I won't make a mistake, it's so difficult to understand what's wrong with me...

My new endo ( which is supposed to be one of the best in the whole country) said after she saw my thyroid blood levels that I have to increase my meds, the levels are too low to feel good. I have trusted her and since one week I'm on 50 mg L-Thyroxin and I feel quite good. So maybe I had the symptoms of hypothyroidism, which were similar to hyper?
