Yes, it can be a bit of a shock when you receive your actual date for surgery. Makes everything seem so real, somehow, and forces you to confront your feelings. Try to remain positive about all of this, if you can, and try not to dwell on the implications. Easier said than done, I know, but worrying does not make things easier. You'll get through this because you have to.

Sorry Lainey - I'm obviously a bit out of the loop. I've been too preoccupied with my own problems, which I'm getting really sick of talking about because they never change......
Do you mind me asking what kind of operation this is? I'm sure everything will be okay.

Hi lainey, I also didn't realise you had to go in for an operation, I am not to sure how to prepare as when I had a simple procedure last year, which turned out to be something and nothing I still got myself in a bit of a stew about it. I guess maybe try and keep your mind occupied in the interim and if possible not focus to much on it. I used to think things when I was sitting in front of the TV six days before - This time next week I will be back here doing the same etc it sort of works for me, but sometimes more successfully than others. We will be here for you if you need us sending you and any support we can. xxxx

Lainey I have had a few surgeries that I have really dreaded so I can understand how scared you feel. Try to focus on after the surgery if you can. That really helped me through my last surgery on my eyes. I had to have a general anaesthetic for both eyes and my mouth palate surgery. Feeling a little scared is normal. We are all here for you and you can talk about how you feel whenever you feel the need. xxx

Bex, The thing is it's a differant surgeon who is in london and very well known who is doing it for me so i really should take comfort from that and be happy the pain will be gone soon. Going to try and stay positive now im over the initial shock of it being so soon. :-) thanks again. Lainey xx I'm so pleased you are seing someone you have a bit of confidence in Lainey, I think it can make all the difference. xxxx

It reminded me of when my DS had to have an operation as child, I went to the Senior GP at my practice who I have a lot of faith in and asked if he thought the Surgeon was OK. When he said if anyone was going to do that Op on his own children it would be her he would chose, suddenly I felt a lot better about it. Even though at that point we had BUPA and DS was having his operation in one of their hospitals I still needed the reassurance, but somehow after I had that it put my mind at rest somewhat.

Having trust in the surgeon makes all the difference, doesn't it?
I'm doctor phobic, generally, but there is one I trust - he saved my husband's life and treated us both like intelligent people rather than talking down to us as if we were idiots.

Hi Lainey, just read this thread as I was away last week & haven't caught up with everything here yet.
Had no idea that you were going through so much. Hope you're not worrying too much & that everything will go smoothly & you'll be so happy with the positive outcome.
Sending lots of love. xx
