Despite all the reading I have undertaken on forums, I haven't read any books on Menopause.
The only one I really know of is 'Screaming to be heard' ( I think that was what it was called ) by Elizabeth Villette and may start there if I can get my concentration together.
It was a book that Candy always recommended and was wondering if that was a good place to start.
Must admitt I am worried that these kind of books will be heavy going but am willing to give one a go to see if I can further make sense of things.
Anyone read it or got any other recommendations that are not too heavy?

I don't have anything to recommend. I would love to read more about menopause, but for some reason (probably menopause is to blame) these days I have a lot of trouble reading and comprehending things that are a bit involved. I used to be a really avid reader, but I haven't read a book for years. I just don't seem to have the attention span anymore. However, ask me to sit down and write 10 pages on a subject and I have absolutely no problems doing that at all. I love to write. I seem to be able to write stuff really easily, but I don't have the ability to read what others have written, unless it's really simple 5th grader stuff.

I have a theory that you are either a reader or a writer, and we appear to be writers...lol...

Hi Bella
Yes I think you have to be careful to steer clear of books from those that may have a product agenda going on. I remember some controversy and heated debate on the mother ship about, I think a Dr Lee (?) who twenty years or ago wrote extensively on the theory of oestrogen dominance, after which his family went on to make millions of dollars selling natural progesterone cream to counteract this oestrogen dominance theory that he had invented.
I am very cynical of that kind of thing, maybe I am doing an injustice but it makes me very wary. I don't like to think I would be suckered in to things but who knows.
Perhaps you are better of with your scientific papers I think if I was a doctor I would feel the same.
I think the thread you mention was one Jacks started but was menopause books 'not' to read LOL.

Thanks Jacks I was beginning to wonder if there were any out there worth the commitment. I have noticed you mention the Hormone Solution one before.

Apologies folks. Can't see for looking. I have just realised there was a thread on this already that you had contributed to Jacks.
I guess it's not the end of the world for me to have asked again, but sorry to have duplicated. As we are a new forum I am embarrassed to say I don't use the search function, instead I just ask away.

Speaking from a country where compounded hormones are becoming quite popular, that seems to be a theory that they ascribe too. I did briefly try compounded hormones at the beginning of my meno journey, and the only thing the doctor gave me was compounded progesterone cream. I had hot flashes and insomnia, so my body was obviously screaming out for some oestrogen, but all I got was progesterone. It did work very briefly (2 months) and then everything went bad. That particular doctor was a right a**ehole though, and he tried to blame me for my insomnia problems, so I ran away from him very quickly. The “oestrogen dominance” thing is also what the naturopathic world ascribes too as well. During the three months I spent being treated by a naturopath (while I was still in my anti-HRT phase) her idea was that my body needed to be rid of the “evil” oestrogen. When I had a second lot of saliva tests done after the three month she was actually patting herself on the back because my oestrogen levels were even lower than they were 3 months previously. Meantime I felt like absolute S*IT.
