I am new so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
In May this year for the first time i had bleeding/spotting around the middle of my cycle, untill a normal period which was a week late, this was after a period of very intense stress, it threw me a bit, but as we were moving i put it down to stress.
After moving i had a normal cycle, then it happened again, since then this seems to have turned into a regular bleed every 2 weeks, normal in all but frequency, i did notice less pain though and less pmt. The only other symptoms around that time were extreme anxiety and the feeling i was going mad, which has now subsided.
The doctor did a pelvic exam, which she said was normal, ordered a normal blood test (whatever that is i can't seem to find out) which came back normal, based on the normal result she ordered a pelvic ultrasound which is tomorrow.
I am terrified, if the pelvic exam was normal i can't understand why she wants a scan, the letter that came told me nothing, and the more i think about it the crosser i get, because they won't tell me there and then.
I don't mind the scan, its good to know, its the lack of information as to what she thinks she is looking for, apart from that she was lovely and sympathetic.
Thank you so much lovely ladies in advance for any advice.

hi Persephone Your doctor is checking for endometrial thickening - a scan is usually ordered for irregular bleeding. Sounds as though you have polymennorhea. I had this myself and in my case it was a misfiring thyroid. The scans usually show nothing to worry about - your GP is just following NHS protocol so try not to be frightened. Jacks xxx

Thank you so much jacks, i have read so much i think my brain is awash with information, i hate not having information lol.
Would a normal blood test show anything untoward with the thyroid? I am more than happy to get one privately.
Sorry to be a big fairy i have a terrible fear of cancer, i lost my mum when she was 31, with something pretty rare, her mother lived to 93, unfortunately "womens things" were never discussed lol.
I did find your other posts really really helpful, so thank you sooooo much for the forum.

Persephone Love the name BTW. I rather enjoy my scans because I find them interesting and it might sound gruesome but I enjoy viewing my insides. Regarding the thyroid often the base tests TSH, T3 T4 be in the normal range BUT if they are - the NHS won't test antibodies which was where my thyroid disorder showed up so I do recommend you have them done privately. Sorry you lost your mum. Endometrial cancer is not common. Your doctor is just covering all bases. I arranged my scan when I had bleeding of the type you describe and my lining was fine and the odds are yours will be. Jacks xxx

Pinky and Jacks,
thank you sooooo much, a little calmer now, thank you for the link i will request my blood test results from the doctor, but will definately look into a private test.
If i am not too worried about tests i find them facinating, had a road accident years ago and they couldn't believe how interested i was by the whole process lol.
Pinky you made me laugh, initially they are doing a normal scan, i am guessing they will do the internal one also, its the waiting for results that does me in.
I will update you, thank you for being interested, i also think it may help someone just reading through, no doubt i will be back with more questions as this thing progresses, and i have ordered a couple of the books recomended.
Thank you re the name, always wanted to be a goddess lol.
Thank you ladies so much for all you kind words. Persephone xxx

Hello ladies,
I had my scan today, the radiographer was lovely and did tell me what she saw, lining all fine, overies fine, 1.5cm fibroid, and a 6mm polyp, which she thinks may be causing the weird bleeding. Initially i was relieved because i was focussing on the lining, now having looked up polyps not so relieved. Apart from i don't really want people poking around i am finding there is a small chance that it could be pre-cancer or worse.
I wonder if you might have any info, i see my doctor Friday, tempted to ring and see if i can get in sooner with a different doctor.
You were right Pinky it wasn't nearly as bad as i thought and yes i had both types of scan, she was lovely and very sympathetic and i didn't at any point feel uncomfortable with what she was doing so i would advise anyone to just get it done :-)
Thank you for listening, Persephone xxx

Persephone It is probably completely benign but Pre cancer is really nothing to be frightened about - pre cancer is emminently treatable. My husband had a polyp in his colon which was removed - it was not cancerous but there was a history of bowel cancer in his family so he was pleased to get shot of it. The internet usually suggests worst case scenario so although this is inconvenient and annoying it would be very surprising if it were dangerous. hugs Jacks

Thank you both very much,
Lainey i am sorry you lost your Mum in Law, and i totally understand why her daughter felt the way she did, all logic tells me it is likely nothing, poor doctors in the past and from the age of 2 grandparents going into panic every time i had a lump or bump has probably given me a distorted view. We have just moved too from a big city to a small hamlet about 150 miles across country, and there is soooo much work to do here, i am worried i won't be able to do the physical work. New doctors seem fantastic though.
Apparently polyps are quite common in peri, it is high up in the uterus somewhere and can be caused by too much estrogen, which i had a feeling was high from the symptoms, not sure if they test for this in the blood test.
Thank you both so much for the support i will update once i know something, but i just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone.

Hello Ladies,
Quick update, did a very good impression of hysterical lady of a certain age and got an appointment this morning, took Hubby as my brain can turn anything into something bad. Doctor was an angel, no cause for concern, in fact the radiographer had written "no action" on the notes. Explained family history, she offered referral to reassure me, should have the little critter out within the month she thought. A little calmer now, although i don't think its sunk in properly.
She did say i couldn't keep it as a pet, but i have two dogs so not tooo upset about that lol.
I will come back at update, thank you so much for the support, i hope to return the favour one day.

Thank you all of you lovely ladies,
I am sure the doctor thought i was a crazy lady lol, actually i am so glad we moved from a city because my goodness what a contrast to my last doctors, they can't do enough here to reassure, she said we could have left it alone, but i would rather have it removed, i will push for regular scans too, even if private. I feel very humble because i know its not this easy for some to get what they want/need.
Thank you too Jacks, self inflicted suffering most of the time though but we will go out tonight for something to eat, off to do some gardening now.
Take care all and i will be stopping by regularly.
