I had a partial hyst in March 2011 kept both ovaries and then had to have one removed last December. I had had several surgeries on both ovaries previously. A month after the last op started to have severe flushing joint pain and generally felt rubbish. I had been in chemical menopause previously so knew the symptoms. My blood tests showed my FSH was 48 my E level 150. So my gynae felt I was in menopause or I am starting to think now was I?. Was put on patches at first but they didnt agree with me so had a 100mg implant put in privately. Things were fine for first few months then I started to have symptoms again have severe MS symptoms at times, then will have joint pain, flushing and vaginal soreness. I have been having fortnightly bloods drawn, levels have been 790, 767, 650, 670, now they have gone to 997! My gynae thinks my remaining ovary is kicking in. I am so confused. The bloods have been done on slightly diffrent dates but my acupuncturist is suggesting they should be done weekly to get an even better picture. She is the only thing that is helping and at £50UK pounds a session weekly it's proving expensive. I'm beginning to feel like a mad woman and also that I will never feel normal.

I'm so sorry to hear this beaglelady. i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa394/Cybe2005/smiley-happy065.gif [/IMG] The meno transition can be awful at the start - well that was my experience. Two and a half years post menopause and I am feeling a lot better. I have never taken HRT. Interestingly I also only have one ovary. The other one was removed when I had an ectopic pregnancy 22 years ago. I don't know a lot about levels of FSH levels but it is my understanding that fluctuating levels are quite normal when one is perimenopausal? I think Jacks knows a lot more about this than me.

Hi Beaglelady For what it is worth I suspect your last gynaecological procedure could affect your blood results. Your FSH was quite high and indicates menopause. Any surgery performed on the ovaries or fallopian tubes will impact on your blood supply which will affect your hormone balance. Your symptoms don't sound as though you are too high with estradiol or you would not be suffering from flushes and vaginal soreness. However I would recommend you get your thyroid checked because it does have receptors throughout the reproductive system. One doctor told me that if optimal HRT is not solving the issue then something else is causing trouble. In my case I had thyroid disease and I'm feeling much better now it is getting looked at. Jacks PS on a lighter note I have always been called a mad woman and will probably never be called normal - but most of the time I feel good.
