I have asked Dr.Annie via Facebook about recommended E levels on HRT and she answered to me: "Here we recommend E levels above 200 on HRT and a lot of my clients don't feel "well" until their levels are between 300 and 600! "
Now I'm not sure did she mean pg/ml or pmol/l?? I don't want to bother her once again... What do you think?

I wish now I had at least 200, since I discontinued with Estrogel on saturday ( my doc told me to reduce it on only half pump during the period), I feel shitty, having severe anxiety without a break, cold chills all the time, so I added another half pump, I don't want to fall on zero estrogen again..

Rusalka I don't understand why you are told to reduce during a period - that would make you feel awful. Jacks This is exactly how I feel The doc said if I continue with E during the period, the bleeding would be stronger and stronger and the lining wouldn't peel away completely ( is this the right term?) and it's unnatural to have high E levels during the period, compared to a "normal" cycle. Well, the argument with the lining was for me somehow logical, but I regret already, the last days were just awful. Today the bleeding is only little, so I used one and a half pumps again and in the evening I will add the second one.. On the telephone the assistant of the gyno said to me I should have use 200 mg Progesterone like the doc told me and not only 100g( or even less), so no wonder that I have such a PMS and erratic cycle...

I don't know either..He suggested to me the continuous method first, but when I said I would prefer to imitate the natural cycle, then he said o.k., but that I should also minimize the Estrogel during the period too..

Yesterday my gyno made the ultrasound and the lining is fine- 0.6 cm. Then he told me I should make this regime now: 2-3 pumps Estrogel for 21 days long, then 7 days only one pump. On the day 10 -22 I should add 200mg Utrogest vaginal. When in between a bleeding occurs, just continue without any change in the dose. After the day 21 we can expect a period, on the day 29 I should start counting as a day 1. This way I will get some continuity in my cycle ( his opinion..). What I would like to know from you- are there any recommended or optimal progesterone levels on HRT? Does Dr. Annie ( or some other hormone expert) has some statement on P?

It beats me why Utrogestan isn't offered in 50 mg capsules to be taken twice daily - far more women would tolerate it then. Jacks

Thanks fort this great explanation! I'm still peri. I like the recommendation of Prof. Studds- only one week P and only 100mg. I was experimenting during the last month with a half of the capsule ( or maybe 2/3, so about 50mg-80mg ) and my lining was very fine! So I'm asking myself why should I take much more P... Unless the theory about estrogen dominancy is right and I was having such strong PMS with anxiety and depression due too low progesterone compared to estrogen...

Lainey, this recommendation comes from my gyno, not from the new endo. She told me that my HRT should stay in the hands of my gyno, so I'm talking about two different doctors. I'm still afraid of the depressing effect of P if it's too much, that's why I'm hesitating with 200 mg. Dr Schwarzbein also told me (via Facebook) that 200 mg Utrogest is too much, because too much P would minimize the effects of the E.

Rusalka, Do you have a good relationship with your gynae? Can you ask why you have to take as much P and tell him/her what you have been told? There has to be a reason for the high amount. I prev had the mirena coil in and when that came out I took 20mg of P and tried to put it upto 30mg and felt ill so stuck at 20mg but when I told prof she said I needed to increase it and put me on cyclogest but when I asked about the ratio amounts etc she told me if the lining was thin which it was but no abnormal bleeding I had balance right but given i was bleeding she wanted it increased to see if that was the issue and it turns out it wasn't. I wonder how much of your thyroid playing up though is putting your hormones out of sync... Lainey xx Lainey, no, I still didn't find the ideal gyno, so I don't trust him completely. His colleague ( female) seems to be more trustworthy, but it's hard to get an appointment with her. I think I will insist that the next time I come to her, she herself is on HRT, so I will ask her all this.

A malfunctioning thyroid confuses the endocrine system further and requires vigilance and observation on the part of the woman who has thyroid disease and peri menopause together. It is difficult to attribute symptoms to one or the other but it is possible with observation. I must say to you dear friend that unless you make an effort to stick to a steady regime of HRT or a month or two all you will do is confuse and irritate your body. Please take this in the spirit it is meant. hugs Jacks

O.k., ladies, thank you for your kind support! I will try to stick to 2 and a half pump of Estrogel till the next blood test, but I really have difficulties with the prescribed progesterone dose- 200 mg ( 2 capsules) are just too much for me, I feel depressed already on half of the capsule! Yesterday I didn't take the Utrogest and today I don't feel depressed, so it's obvious that it's progesterone..But what should I do? I have to take P if I take E ... what do you think- could it be that my body has to get used on progesterone first and that this side effect will disappear with the time? If I would know that after few days ( or weeks) this depressive feelings will disappear, I would somehow continue with P, but I tell you, it's not fun how I feel under Utrogest

Rusalka, I may be wrong but i don't believe its as simple as that. I don't believe not taking P one day would change your mood so drastically the next. I unfortunately had no P possibly for quite a while because clots pushed out my coil and i have worked out there was def a good few weeks with no P and i was not depressed. Your thyroid being out can cause depression though so try and keep an open mind. Ladies what do you's think? Do yous thing the P not being taking for a day could be causing the depression? Lainey xx Lainey, I feel depressed after I take P. Yesterday I didn't take P and today I'm not depressed at all. P works in my case good for anxiety, but it seems to make me depressed. I heard this also from some other ladies, even my other (female) gyno told me that P could make depression or PMS worse, so I don't think it's everything in my head. I will try to go on with the P, but it's hard. I was so scared of estrogen and possible side effect, but with E I had no problem..

Lainey xx I agree and think the sex hormones are just part of the equasion. I get horrible symptoms from my thyroid and can defferentiate between peri and thyroid symptoms. Rusalka needs to plan a regime and stick to it monitoring herself as she goes along to see what patterns emerge. Until I found out about my thyroid I thought I was losing my marbles although a few folk would say that my marbles departed years ago Jacks
