HI, I am new here. Sorry if my questions are very basic! I am nearly 50 and haven't gone through menopause yet. I have heavy periods due to fibroids, also being treated for low thyroid, and have been using estrogen (2 pumps) and progesterone gels (lots) for nearly two years. I had been taking one Utrogestan at bedtime, stopping on days 1 to 5 of each month. I was supposed to have my period then, but it didn't always work that way. I had a heavy period less than two weeks ago. the doctor suggested increasing the Utrogestan to two a day and not stopping for days 1-5 this time, and decreasing estrogen to one pump. Now I'm bleeding again, with cramps and everything (but not low-estrogen headache i usually get at the start of a period). I am really annoyed as I'm going on holiday in a few days (with my boyfriend who lives in another country - we haven't seen each other in two months). Why would I be bleeding? Not enough estrogen? Is there anything I can do to stop it, or hurry it up? Will try to phone the doctor tomorrow. Thank you for any insights in the meantime.

Hi and thanks for your message.
Estrogen to help with perimenopause in general. Progesterone to balance the estrogen and reduce bleeding/regularize periods.
Now taking two 100 mg Utrogestan tabs at bedtime. 1 pump Estradiol Oestrogel 0.06% on inner thighs and 2.5 grams of progesterol (progesterone) gel 1% on stomach and breasts in the morning. Doctor has suggested Mirena coil.
Thanks for your kind words.
C.
