Hi ladies, it's been a while since my last post here. I was busy with my privat situation which changed drastically ( separation...). Regarding my HRT- I was using 2-3 pumps of Estrogel and 1 capsule Utrogest. My symptoms were only slightly better and my levels stayed very modest.(estrogen 187 pmol/l in June 2013). Since I started to feel worse again, with really bad insomnia as a most severe symptom, my gyno checked the levels again last week. My feeling was right- my estrogen was even lower- 77 pmol!! No wonder that with such poor levels I again started to be anxious, depressed and waking up every single hour every night, having bad dreams all the time. So my doc thinks that I'm not absorbing the gel at all and she prescribed me patches, I will get them tomorrow. Also she changed my Utrogestan to Chlormadinon, to prevent my PMS and to lower my male hormones, which are elevated a lot. Now at least I have some hope that maybe my body will absorb patches well and finally after one year HRT I will get some decent estrogen levels. If I remember well, there was also a lady on this board who had very low estrogen levels despite 5-6 pumps estrogel? I would like to hear from her how she is doing now and how are her levels. I hope you are all well! Jacks, is your book about the menopause finished ?

Hi Rusalka Sory to hear of your troubles . I hope you do well with the patches. My book about menopause is almost ready - I'm just finishing the testosterone information. That estrogel must be well rubbed in to provide decent absorption and I have observed that using an extra half measure at bedtime works well for insomnia. Jacks

Hi Jacks, I think I'm using the gel quite correctly and rubbing it well into my skin. I also use the half of the dose before bed time, but still no effect. I really hope patches would work for me..

Yesterday evening I have started with Estradot(Vivelle) Patches 75. They seem to be in a quite high dosagage. I'm not good enough in math to found out how much is this compared with Estrogel. Today I woke up without any morning anxiety and stomach issue, which is very good. I so hope I will get the relief finally. MY new gyno is very supportive and she said to me even if I didn't have such severe symptoms like anxiety, depressive moods, insomnia, mood swings, she would reccomend me HRT, because it's not healthy for a woman at all to live with such low estrogen levels! Another doc said recently to me that HRT is not meant to reverse the menopause, it's only to moderate some symptoms and only for few years, then we have to accept the fact and live with this new situation in a life of every woman. The idiot thought that I'm refusing the natural process of gettin older and that's why I suffer so much with the symptoms!

I'm guessing either it is a man and no menopause or a complacent female who knows that she is always in a position to obtain HRT without begging or pleading and can obtain it for life. It is always unhealthy to live without our hormones. I don't think there is a magical age where menopause becomes healthy. Jacks

He was an old man Jacks.. Today I received an answer from the manufacturer of my brand of Estrogel. He wrote ( a doctor), that my E-levels are perfectly o.k., it shouldn'be higher to keep the risk as low as possible.. His experience is that the most women feel relief from hot flashes already on 1-2 pumps Estrogel and they don't need higher E-levels. WTH? Hot flashes are not the only symptom which is bothering us! I never had hot flashes, but a lot of other symptoms!! I really don't understand these opinions about so very dangerous estrogen. I mean, if estrogen would be such a high risk, every pregnanant woman or ovulating young lady should be in a very dangereous situation! But they mostly feel the best and are the most healthy...I still remember how great are always felt during the ovulation, when my E-levels were very high, this was always the best time of my whole month..

Rusalka They just demonise estrogen. I note everyone thinks it is safe to use birth control pills though. Men use testosterone without any fuss. Lower than optimal levels of estrogen raise the risk of many symptoms and serious illness. Women are getting breast cancer at a young age these days - there are many factors involved in cancer. One doctor told me a woman had a greater chance of being injured in a road accident then by taking hormones and he wasn't prescribing them to me.Osteoporosis is caused by low estradiol and that is a big killer. I think they just like older females to be compliant, frightened by constant health scares and invisible to society. Jacks

I don't understand why the feminists don't speak about this problem, a HRT should be a human right for everyone like medicine for the thyroid or insuline! Recently I met a woman who is a naturopath!, but she said- not with the (B)HRT we will get cancer or other deseases, but without them! Normally they only recommend some soy isoflavon or red claw for the menopause problems, but this lady is at least 50 and she looks great- young, fresh, active, sexy and healthy.I bet she has very high levels of estrogen, LOL. She is unfortunately too expensive for me at the moment. But I'm very lucky with my "normal" gyno who is herself using the HRT and has almost similar views on the HRT as Prof. Studds and Dr. Annie.

Femminists in England and USA see HRT as spawn of the devil. French feminists are more enlightened and view it as a good thing. Many other feminists say it is used to please men. Soy is bad for the thyroid. Personally I am not convinced of the benefit to female health. Men do not get these idiotic remedies pushed at them because they would refuse to tolerate such patronising remedies. The alternative remedies are pushed at women in menopause and so much money is at stake almost everyone has an interest i getting women to buy them and put VAT in the coffers of the governmemt.
